The idea behind OnceWrote

For people who want to do many things. And who are tired of being told to pick one.

You are not scattered. You are a scanner.

Some people love one thing for a lifetime. Many people do not. They love music, and business, and gardening, and a new language, all in the same year. They start things with joy. Their interest moves on. Then they feel they are failing.

The writer Barbara Sher gave these people a name in her book Refuse to Choose! She calls them scanners. Other people use the word multipotentialite. The words are different. The people are the same: people with many interests, who do not want to pick just one.

OnceWrote was inspired by that idea. It is not connected to Barbara Sher or her publisher. We just think the idea is true, and we built an app for it.

What the usual apps get wrong

Most apps for goals and habits are built for one kind of person: the one who picks a plan and follows it every day. They count your streak. They mark late things in red. They ask: did you do it?

If your mind moves between many interests, those apps do the opposite of helping. A streak punishes a mind that moves. A red mark says "you failed" about something you may have simply outgrown.

What a scanner really needs

A scanner needsSo OnceWrote has
A place to put every thought, fast, before it flies awayThoughts, saved in seconds, and they come back to you
Room for many things at the same timeMissions and Projects side by side, not one big list
To feel the progress that is already happeningMarks you tap, and a weekly Report of what moved
No guilt when interest moves onNothing overdue. Nothing red. No streaks.
To remember the finish line was realWins, kept forever
To be left aloneOne reminder at most. No AI. No ads. Your writing is locked.

What OnceWrote will never do

  • It will never say you are behind.
  • It will never ask you to commit to one thing.
  • It will never read your writing. There is no AI inside.
  • It will never turn your life into a score.

Who made it

OnceWrote was made by Naveed, for himself first. He had many things going on at once. He wanted to see his progress without making plans he would feel bad about breaking.

He is not a programmer. He sketched the first version on a whiteboard. He designed every screen, built the app with the help of AI coding tools, and tested it on his own phone and computer. He did not know how to make a percentage go up without typing it in by hand. That problem became the Missions system, where the bar fills by itself as you finish levels.

Along the way he cut more features than he kept. Anything that added pressure, or put your privacy at risk, was removed.

If you have ever said "I'm interested in everything," OnceWrote was made for you.

For Windows and Android. Not on iPhone or Mac yet.
